The beauty, benefits, and magic of photographing your horse in the winter months!
I get it, almost everyone would much rather take photos any other season of the year, but I'm here to tell and show you why winter portraits might be the perfect fit for you and your horse!
Winter time is basically a natural soft box, and for those that don't know too much about photography lighting, it's the perfect lighting for portraits, there's typically fewer harsh shadows and it makes your skin smooth and glowing. On the same topic of lighting, you don't have to wake up early or stay up later to get the gorgeous golden hour sun!
You get to have unique photos! Most clients book in the other seasons so winter photos feel fresh, different and stand out on social media. Even if there's not much snow on the ground, like there was for this senior photo session with Shadie and her cute boy Chrome in Logan, UT, the frost on the ground and the trees still make for a stunning backdrop!
Cool weather means no sweating for you or your equine companion and the best part is that there is NO BUGS! That makes for a happy horse and a happy photographer ;)
Cozy clothes are a must for these shoots and who doesn't love getting to where a cute sweater! You get to be more creative with layering and for my fellow ladies, if your hair isn't cooperating, like it always seem to do on a photo day, then you can just throw on a cute beanie and boom, you're ready!
And last but not least, you have way more say in when the photos are done since winter time is slow season for equine photographers! This means you can potentially get photos scheduled and done quicker and planning is overall more relaxed.
You may still be leaning more towards a spring or fall session, which is totally okay! The good news for you is that spring is right around the corner! But I personally think winter photo sessions are not talked about nearly enough which means the benefits of them aren't talked about either. Don't be afraid to bundle up and get those photos done :)
